photographer, mother, wife, artist

about joselyn

I started my photography studio, originally Third Coast Studio, based on an obsession with beaches and desire to experience  what I saw in other artists’ work — emotion, connection, confidence, and beauty. I wanted to make photos that feel like the sun on your face.

We moved back to WI months before the pandemic. I was a postpartum toddler mom and yearned for a creative outlet, direction to expand, and reasons to connect with more people. Missing art/education school, university work, world travel and the life we had in Utah, I needed to better appreciate our new reality (also my old reality because my high school sweetheart and I grew up in Green Bay) and find beauty in Midwest living.

Originally, my business came about because I couldn't find a photographer here whose work I connected with. I missed being surrounded by the talent of the West. I loved the avant-garde types of shots, editing styles, and the overall trend setting work and decided to try and bring that here myself.

The practice of photography changed my ability to see the good around me. I found photography styles and techniques that excite me when it’s less than 70’s and sunny. Everywhere I go, I notice people who I wish I could style a shoot with, from shoppers at Aldi, to couples thrifting, to families swimming at the Y. I can picture outfits, locations and photos that romanticize life in the current season.

Working with clients brings me joy — joy to share my talents and give people a view of themselves to fall in love with.

GET TO KNOW ME (01)

I took courses on women's sexuality and enhancing sexuality in marriage. The principles in these courses changed my perspective on bodies and the human experience. Some of my religious practices have changed since then. After a lifetime of wearing long undergarments, I've added new pieces to my wardrobe.

Little things like regularly feeling the air against my skin and my daughters’ skin on my legs when they hug me, and wearing outfits that feel more flattering, I enjoy feeling connected to my body and my looks in a way that I lost in adulthood. Being able to appreciate myself in my own skin and what it means to be human has given me a greater capacity to celebrate the women around me.

GET TO KNOW ME (02)

I dove headstrong into feminism and themes of motherhood as a studio artist. I care deeply about women and want to give women incredible photos of themselves and their lives — their people, places, homes, routines, traditions, fashion, hairstyles, hobbies, businesses, etc.

GET TO KNOW ME (03)

Even if my clients feel like they're being awkward, I snap the most incredible pictures of them. I know when to press the shutter. I know how to compose an image in my frame. I know the types of looks, touches, and movement that make good photos.

I have a way with capturing personalities. People want to book with me because they want their pictures to feel like them, not stiff or posed. I capture their goofy side, their romantic side, their giddy side, their beaming joyful side, and their restful side - all in one session. It's like they get a view of the fullness of their personalities and their relationship.

I have worked alongside some of the best photographers in the wedding industry in Malibu, Mexico, and Milwaukee, with one foot in a more classic, traditional world and the other dialed into contemporary trends.
